Epic trumpets surprise victory in its lawsuit against Google- ‘A win for all app developers and consumers around the world’-

The long-running lawsuit between Epic and Google has taken a surprising turn because, well, Epic seems to have won. After a brief deliberation, a jury has decided that Google has in fact engaged in anti-competitive behavior in order to establish a monopoly on Android app distribution and billing services.

The full verdict, available via CourtListener, is an across-the-board win for Epic: The jury found that Epic proved “the existence of a relevant antitrust market,” that Google “wilfully acquired or maintained monopoly power by engaging in anticompetitive conduct” in that market, and that Epic suffered damages as a result.

That outcome stands in sharp contrast to the 2021 ruling in Epic’s lawsuit against Apple, which went almost entirely Apple’s way, including in the declara…

Once Human developer teases the first big update, apologizes for the last bad patch-

Once Human developer Starry Studio has teased the first big update coming to the open world survival game, which will include new PvP and PvE modes and “a new northern mountain region, monsters, and challenges.” First things first, though, an apology: It seems that a recent maintenance update broke numerous items in the game and caused the demolition of a whole bunch of player houses.

The problem came to light shortly after the rollout of a patch on July 18: Players on Reddit began complaining about items and bases—sometimes just parts, sometimes the whole thing—simply disappearing. It didn’t take long to figure out that something, somewhere, had gone very wrong.

did anyone else’s house got disemboweled after the patch??? from r/OnceH…

Starfield’s surprise anime series features battling mechs and fans are hoping they’ll be playable in the game-

With the sci-fi RPG epic Starfield now just over a month away, Bethesda Softworks has released The Settled Systems – A Starfield Animated Anthology, a trio of brief animes offering a look at life in three of the game’s biggest cities—and it’s got some fans hoping that maybe Todd Howard has been holding something back.

The videos don’t reveal much about what we can look forward to in the game, but the presence of mechs in the Where Hope is Built episode has fans in the Starfield subreddit wondering if they’ll be able to do some blasting and slugging with giant fighting robots at some point. Todd Howard has previously said there will be no land vehicles in the game, which seems clear enough, but hope dies hard, especially since there was also a mech tease in the official…

Starfield is promised ‘at least DLSS3 support in the Early Access 5 days’ by pro modder PureDark-

While we wait for official word from either AMD or Bethesda on whether Starfield is going to be open to benefiting from DLSS support, professional modder, PureDark, has seemingly announced their intention to get it into the game before it’s even fully released.

With AMD announcing its partnership with Bethesda for Starfield there has been quite the reaction from the gaming community over a perceived block on the developers adding in DLSS support for Nvidia users. The suggestion is that part of the partnership requires the exclusive use of AMD’s own FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), blocking the likes of DLSS and Intel’s XeSS from being added to partner games.

This is something AMD has avoided questioning about—and most recently when we’ve specifically asked for commen…

These Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses want to turn us all into IRL streamers-

At the Meta Connect Keynote, it wasn’t all VR headsets and Snoop Dogg-powered AIs. Meta is looking to turn everyone into an IRL streamer by announcing the new Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses that will let wearers livestream to their followers and allow for some first-person POV filming.

The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are an upgrade from Ray-Ban’s Stories smart glasses that never quite took off because of poor battery life and recording capabilities. The new feature that will interest streamers and content creators is the ability to livestream directly to Instagram and Facebook Live hands-free. Comments will appear to you, or you can have them read aloud to you by the glasses.

Meta did a short bit with Ferrari F1 driver Charles LeClerc livestreaming a go-kart session to his millio…

Today’s Wordle answer for Tuesday, May 14-

Some Wordles can be trickier than others, but whatever happens, we’re always here to help. Skip straight to another win with the answer to today’s Wordle if you need to, or use our hint for the May 14 (1060) game to give your own ideas a nudge in the right direction.

Wordle really made me work for the answer today. Every new line seemed to throw up grey letters more than anything else, and the few greens I had uncovered weren’t especially helpful. It took a fresh approach and just a slight dash of mild panic to find today’s Wordle answer.

This upcoming FPS has a website that’s a sick throwback to ’90s game ads-

Fortune’s Run is shaping up to be something special: a retro FPS blending immersive sim depth with pure boomer shooter speed, some of the best swordplay I’ve seen in a game, and a gloriously grungy ’90s sci-fi setting. But those aren’t the only lost arts Team Fortune is reviving: the two-person team just unveiled an absolutely sick new website.

I know what you’re thinking: “Website? How cool could it be? Besides grandpa, everyone advertises their games in portrait mode on TikTok dueted with ASMR footage of someone slicing up a bar of soap.” It may not represent today’s best marketing practices, but I love the way this page harkens back to an era of absurdly wordy magazine ads, like this original Half-Life spread that appeared in PC Gamer in the ’90s.

US Dept of Justice used existing router malware to quietly purge a Russia-backed ‘vast spearphishing’ botnet from devices in peoples’ homes-

There aren’t many stories in the world of technology that could easily make it as a plot for a tense spy-thriller movie, but this one sure has all the right hallmarks for one. Last month, the US Justice Department carried out an authorised operation in which it neutralised a botnet, comprising hundreds of routers in homes and offices, that was used to carry out spearphishing and other credentials stealing. And it was achieved by using the very same malware as that by the botnet itself.

As reported by Ars Technica, the network was created by the officially titled GRU Military Unit 26165 (also known by the names Forest Blizzard, Fancy Bear, Sednit, and others), a state-sponsored hacking group that reported has direct ties to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of …

What a Trip- EA and 3DO founder’s on the Web3 Kool-Aid-

William Murray Hawkins III, better-known as Trip Hawkins, has had a long and incredibly impactful career in games. Hawkins founded Electronic Arts in 1982, and led the company through its trailblazing first decade, establishing certain specialities like sports that the publishing giant was built on. Then Hawkins went on to launch the ill-fated 3DO, a powerful console kneecapped by a high price, before founding Digital Chocolate and spending the 2000s in casual games (like Mafia Wars).

Now, Trip’s back! Don’t get excited. In a move that has strong 69-year-old executive vibes, Hawkins has announced he’s joining a Web3 startup as co-founder and strategy chief. Games for a Living (GFAL) is based in Barcelona and all about that crypto, aiming to create experiences that can compete with…

Today’s Wordle hint and answer #831- Thursday, September 28-

Save your Wordle win streak with our fresh daily hint, designed to point you in the right direction without completely giving the game away. Although if you’d like to have the game given away you’re in luck, because the answer to the September 28 (831) Wordle is right here and ready to go.

Finding two greens early on should feel like a spot of good luck—it was just a shame they were surrounded by greys. And more greys. And even more greys. Today’s Wordle was less a case of finding the right word, and more about cobbling something together using the only letters I had left. Here’s hoping tomorrow’s game doesn’t cause as much trouble.
